Ben Eder – Professional Experience & Background
In 2013, 2014 and 2015 Ben Eder was awarded as one of the top trial attorneys by the National Trial Lawyers, Top 100 Trial Lawyers. In 2011 and 2012, Ben was named a Top 40 trial attorney under the age of 40 years old, an Up and Coming Lawyer under the age of 40, and a Rising Star from Super Lawyers. In 2011, Ben was awarded the Membership Service Award from the Oregon State Bar which is rarely given to a lawyer under 40 years old. As a featured presenter on Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUI) Defense, cross examination of police, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) hearings and jury selection it clear that Ben is frequently asked to share the trial tips that have led to successful trials/hearings. Ben moderated the bi-annual DUI conference in 2012 and organized the 2016 conference. In 2008 and again in 2014, Ben authored/revised the chapter on conducting Department of Motor Vehicle Hearings for the DUI Notebook, published by the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. In 2015, Ben presented to the criminal law section how to conduct DMV hearings and effectively cross examine witnesses.
Ben Eder grew up in Portland and attended Oregon Episcopal School. Ben played lacrosse for the University of Washington and was named to the All Conference Team and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Academic All American Team in 2001. After graduating, he attended the University of Oregon School of Law. During law school, Ben worked as a prosecutor before joining Thuemmel and Uhle as an Associate. In 2012, Ben became a partner at Thuemmel Uhle and Eder. Ben has successfully argued before the Court of Appeals on DUI cases, received not guilty verdicts after jury trials on misdemeanor DUI and Felony DUI trials in multiple counties across the state. Ben has also had success in personal injury cases.
In his free time, Ben enjoys traveling, staying fit, eating, cooking and discussing cases/trial strategy.
In 2008, Ben was awarded the Member Service Award from the Oregon State Bar for his service through the Oregon New Lawyers Division. Ben has presented Continued Legal Education seminars on defending driving under the influence cases to lawyers in Portland, Eugene and Salem. In July 2009, Ben was the featured speaker regarding how to defend DUI cases presented to the Metropolitan Public Defender’s Office in Portland. In 2008, Ben authored the chapter on conducting Department of Motor Vehicle Hearings for the DUI Notebook, published by the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
